Fine Art is the only course for me due to its freedom of thought and outlook on the modern world. It supplies me with a means to express my perceptions in a way in which an audience can reflect upon.
Image 1 (working down) was part of a task over the christmas break to freeze an object and document it over time. I opted to freeze a moment in time, which evolved into a moment of death.
Image 2 was a life-drawing workshop in which we experimented with different methods of drawing.
Image 3 was my first encounter of embossing, using disposable objects to create a compostion.
Images 4 and 8 were my resolution to my first project, based on the theme of absence and presence. I was drawn to its spiritual side, and presence as immediate proximity in time and space, and what that suggested to me.I had been experimenting with ink after looking at Antony Gormley. In these works i moved away from trying to fully visualise my thoughts and instead experimented with different media, as well as returning to embossing.
Images 6 and 7 were produced after a trip to Woolaton Hall where I made sketches which were enlarged in the studio in order to experiment with scale. I was trying to create some mature drawings while still experimenting with different types of media.
For our most recent project we were asked to focus on drawing . I chose my title as microcosm in the macrocosm, and after completing primary research my proposal was to experiment with liquid media on varying supports, using patterns based on microcosm and my own previous image of microcosm (image 10). Simultaneously i was experimenting with media in order to continuously build my grasp on certain materials, (images 5 and 9). I wanted to challenge peoples preconceptions, and wanted them to resort back to an origin. In this case nature as the origin. To do this I woodcut and drew natural lines, or, recognisably natural forms (double helix), onto a basically built, universal object to suggest a loss of tradition in our constantly modernised world (image 11).
I get my information mainly by researching my own thoughts on the internet and from periodicals such as Art Review and books from the college library. I read The Independent. I love satirical stand up comedy and I support Manchester United.
